SIGNS THAT "SPEAK" FOR THEMSELVES

TEXAS

The only way to get caught up on my blogging is to just throw up a few of the pictures I have taken and give you enough info to Google the various spots. I take 100 pictures (thank God for digital) and then download them to my computer and delete them from my wonderful new camera – worth every penny!!! It takes some time to post pictures to the blog but hopefully I have been able to give you a sense of my life on the road.

I will be in San Antonio until Thursday and then I am headed south to Port Aransas which is on the Gulf of Mexico just south of Corpus Cristi. I will be staying at Gulf Waters Beachfront RV Park that has a private boardwalk out to the beach. I will stay for a month or more.

GRUENE, TEXAS

Another small town north of San Antonio. Spent the day wandering thru the shops which are in restored houses. Had an amazing lunch at the Tea House (Fall Salad), bought some handmade soaps, a beautiful and original necklace and loved every minute in this quaint town. The woman who made the necklace asked me where I was headed when I left San Antonio and I had nothing planned. She suggested Port Aransas which is just south of Corpus Cristi on the Gulf of Mexico so that's where I am going next. Its nice to have people make recommendations.

BOERNE, TEXAS

This small town is about 30 minutes north of San Antonio and I drove up the on November 11th for their service in Veteran's Park. The school band and choir were there along with about 200 from town. Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines were honored with the band playing their theme music. The guest speaker was Col. David F. Tooney III who commanded one of the only two operational F117A stealth fighter squandrons. He fly into Bagdad at the very start of Desert Storm. His story was one that even dad would have loved.

ARTISIA, NEW MEXICO

This is a wonderful small town just north of Carlsbad, New Mexico. The pride the people have for their city is wonderful. The bronze sculptures are amazing. Also, the high school has a big stadium and gym and you really get a feel for "Friday Night Lights". It is towns like this that make my trip so exciting.

OLD TOWN, ALBUQUERQUE

Old Town is a wonderful part of ALB (it's way too long to type out every time) and I was ready for the day as I had looked on line to check out the stores. I got there and parked and walked into the area and YUP - OVERPRICED AGAIN. When will I learn? I didn't buy stuff but really enjoyed the area. They have a lottery for the street vendors (very similar to Santa Fe). I did meet a guy who was born in Sask and moved to New West and then on to New Mexico - go figure.

MADRID, NEW MEXICO

This is a cute town where they filmed Wild Hogs. Okay, that's about all there is to say about Madrid other than every store sells the same overpriced jewelry and arts and crap. I have even seen some of the stuff being sold on the beaches in Mexico. It is amazing how much artists think their works are worth. If no one is buying then they are not worth the inflated pricing but they are artists!!
