THAT'S A WRAP, FOLKS!!!!!!!

I am now up to date with my travels. It has taken 2 days but it was fun. I had forgotten some of the great places that I have visited. I am currently in Carrabelle, Florida which is called The Forgotten Coast. The RV Park is right across the street from the beach so both Coco and I are happy. We do our early morning walk on the beach and then again in the late afternoon as the breeze is wonderful.

Not sure where I am going next or when I will move but I will keep up to date on the blog going forward. No, really, I promise.

Glad that y'all are enjoying my travels!

MY NEW CO-PILOT - COCO CHANEL

I was on the beach in St. Simon’s and this woman, Jacquie, and friends came down to the beach. She had 2 big dogs and this little dachshund that she called Kahlua. I said that I needed a little dog for my travels but she couldn’t give me the puppy. The following week, I was back at the same beach and Jacquie found me. She was moving into an apartment and couldn’t keep the dogs. I said that I would be thrilled to take the puppy.

I left the dog with her as I was flying home for two weeks but as soon as I got back to Georgia I went and picked up my sweet puppy. Took her to the vet and then the pet store. The puppy threw up three times before we got back to the trailer. Onto the web and found out that small dogs may need to ride higher so back to the pet store and got a great sturdy foam and cover seat and Coco loves it. We have only done one big drive and I need to schedule more stops to let her out of the truck to pee and run around.

She is house trained but when there was an accident it was my fault – telling a puppy to hold it is not a good idea. I am better trained now. Coco LOVES the beach and she chases birds and runs into the surf and digs in the sand and is perfect. She loves people and gets so excited whenever she sees a new person. She pulls and jumps and licks. She is a big hit around the RV Park and with people on the beach.

She has had her other shots and goes to the vet for neutering next week. She was not happy with me after the three shots she got so she will be really pissed with me when I pick her up next week. A few days of pampering and lots of treats and, like any female, she will be her usual happy little self.

I am so in love with this little bundle of joy!!!!!

DARIEN, GEORGIA

Darien is about 30 minutes north of Brunswick, Georgia and the main source of income is from the shrimp fleet. There is an annual festival “The Blessing of the Fleet” and it runs for about 4 days. There is a parade, rides for the kids, vendors, food and Art in the Park which was wonderful. There were many artists whose medium is photography and I bought several photos for the trailer. On the Sunday the fleet lines up and one at a time the boat motors up to a staging area and a local minister offers a blessing. Some of the blessings were quiet and dignified and others where very loud and long. After I had heard four blessings I headed back to the truck. If you have heard one blessing, you’ve heard them all.

It was a great two days in a very close knit community. One of the large shrimp boats had suffered a devastating fire the year before and the town pitched in to help the owners get the boat ready for this years shrimp season.

The shrimp are very good but nothing like the west coast shrimp.

I was headed to Darien one late afternoon and there had been an accident involving a young (30’s) couple from Ontario being hit from behind by a mini van. Their car was totalled and the other driver was so drunk she couldn’t pass sobriety the test being performed by a state trooper. I took the couple to the hospital (just a precaution) and got them to a motel near the RV Park where I was staying. Took them to town for some items they needed and to the wrecking yard to get more pictures and license plates. They got everything worked out with the woman’s insurance company and headed off for Ontario 4 days later.

SAVANNAH, GEORGIA

I LOVE SAVANNAH. I spent the day starting with a 90 minute trolley ride and then walked for 5 hours just exploring the waterfront shops and the squares of the historic district. Savannah really is a “walking” city. The people were lovely, lots to see and some quiet spots to just sit and think.

Savannah is the largest city and county seat of Chatham County, in the U.S. state of Georgia. Established in 1733, the city of Savannah was the colonial capital of the Province of Georgia and later the first state capital of Georgia. Today Savannah is an industrial center and an important Atlantic seaport. It is Georgia's fourth-largest city and third-largest metropolitan area.

Each year Savannah attracts millions of visitors, who enjoy the city's architecture and historic buildings: the birthplace of Juliette Gordon Low (founder of the Girl Scouts of the United States of America), the Telfair Academy of Arts and Sciences (one of the South's first public museums), the First African Baptist Church (one of the oldest African American Baptist congregations in the United States), Temple Mickve Israel (the third-oldest synagogue in America), and the Central of Georgia Railway roundhouse complex (the oldest standing antebellum rail facility in America).

Savannah's downtown area, which includes the Savannah Historic District, the Savannah Victorian Historic District and 22 park-like squares, is one of the largest National Historic Landmark Districts in the United States (designated by the U.S. government in 1966). Savannah was the host city for the sailing competitions during the 1996 Summer Olympics held in Atlanta, Georgia.

The "park bench" scene which opens the 1994 film Forrest Gump was filmed on the north side of Chippewa Square. The bench was a fiberglass prop, rather than one of the park's actual benches. A prop bench used in the film is on display at the Savannah Visitors Center. Chippewa Square is located on Bull, between Hull and Perry Streets.

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, GEORGIA

St. Simons Island is one of Georgia's renowned Golden Isles (along with Sea Island, Jekyll Island, and privately owned Little St. Simons Island). It is also the largest of the Golden Isles. After being cultivated by English colonists for rice and cotton plantations worked by large populations of African slaves, who created the unique Gullah culture, the island since the early 20th century has been developed as a resort community. It has many seasonal residents, as well as a steady base of year-round residents. Many of the residents have settled here after retiring in other parts of Georgia or the United States.

The King and Prince Hotel on St. Simons Island was built in 1941. It was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

This is one of my favorite places – great small beach with very few people, wonderful shops and the best part of St. Simon Island – this is where is got my new puppy, Coco Chanel, a 5 month dachshund. More about her and pictures to come.
